Labor and Birth

Water Birth

Many of our clients choose to labor and/or birth in water. We offer tubs at home and at our birth center, and you get the water birth kit with either your own tub or a liner.

What are the potential benefits of water birth?

  • Warm water is soothing, comforting, relaxing.
  • The effect of buoyancy lessens a mother’s body weight, allowing free movement and new positioning.
  • Buoyancy promotes more efficient uterine contractions and improved blood circulation resulting in better oxygenation of the uterine muscles, less pain for the mother, and more oxygen for the baby.
  • The water reduces the mother’s perception of pain in labor.
  • Water causes the perineum to become more elastic and relaxed, reducing the incidence and severity of tearing and the need for stitches.
  • Eases the stress of the birth for the baby.

Birth Center

Our birth center offers all the comforts of home, including a full kitchen. You will be able to relax in the birth suite, walk around our facility, and your family will have plenty of room to relax, nap themselves, cook food for your postpartum meal, or support you in any way you need.

Both of our birth rooms have beds, couches for family, and birth pools in them. We have a bathroom with a shower dedicated to our birthing mothers, in addition to a door separating our “birth” space from our clinic and prenatal space in the event you go into labor on a clinic day.

Your midwife and birth team will be with you throughout your labor, checking on you and you baby’s well being, supporting you, and caring for you however you need it.

Home Birth

The Ocala Birth Center also offers home births, where we come to you when you are in labor and help you birth your baby in the comfort of your own home (or a family member’s home!) Having worked as a home birth midwife before opening The Ocala Birth Center, Amy has a passion for home births, and has a lot of experience helping mothers bring their children into the world in their own space. You must be within 30 minutes of a hospital with an Obstetrical Unit in order to have a home birth in the state of Florida.

We bring all of the equipment to your home that we have at the birth center.¬†We protect your bed or carpet with waterproof liners and pads, which make for easy clean-up. Your birth team makes sure to take out the trash and run a load of laundry for you before leaving your home. Dads are always surprised when we leave that it looks like nothing happened! If it weren’t for the new little one, no one would ever know you had your baby at home.

When laboring mothers are given the space and opportunity to listen to their bodies without restriction, interventions are rarely necessary. When interventions are rare, so are the problems that often accompany them.
